| Course Description | This graduate seminar investigates the art, architecture, and visual culture of the city of Venice from the early ninth through the late fifteenth centuries and beyond. Special emphasis will be placed on Venice’s expansions in the Adriatic and the Eastern Mediterranean during the thirteenth century, the artistic and cultural impact of Venice’s contacts with the Byzantine Empire and the Crusader kingdoms and principalities in the Levant and Greece. |
