| Course Description | Principles of writing clear and rigorous science texts and giving great presentations. The Writing component focuses on the construction of logical arguments, reporting and interpretation of data, composing process, and strategies for redrafting and editing. Genres include Introductions, Data Commentaries, Results/Discussion, Conclusions, Abstracts, Requests for funding, Research statements, Professional emails, Blogs. The Presentation component looks at development of the presentation story, use of visuals, fluent delivery, asking and responding to questions. Speaking contexts include research talks, lab talks, conference presentations, poster talks, job talks, interviews, industry pitches. Pass/No Pass only, based on completion of assignments and participation in class exercises. Credit may not be used to satisfy degree requirements. |
