Course Description | This course introduces second-year Economic and Political Development (EPD) concentrators to the applied practice of sustainable development. It is the first part of a two-course sequence that continues with the spring Workshop in Sustainable Development Practice (U9001). Anchored in the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the course prepares students to design, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate development interventions. Through lectures, case studies, and practical assignments, students will explore key frameworks and tools used in the field while critically examining their ethical, political, and methodological implications. Emphasis is placed on participatory and qualitative methods, stakeholder analysis, project design, and adaptive management. Students will strengthen core professional skills in communication, facilitation, and client engagement and will develop an initial workplan for their spring workshop project. |
