Course Description | Spend a semester in Ancient Japan! This tour of premodern places and spaces introduces the history of the Japanese archipelago, from the Stone Age to the 16th century C.E., through various primary source materials in translation, including archaeological sites, literary works, and the anime Princess Mononoke. No prior knowledge of Japanese history required, and all course readings are in English. |
