| Course Description | This class is conceived as a series of sustained close readings of Édouard Glissant’s oeuvre—his poetry, novels, manifestoes, treatises, and philosophical essays. Over the last decade in particular, Glissant’s work has become increasingly central across an extraordinary range of disciplines, including literary theory, critical theory, critical race theory, performance studies, postcolonial studies, Indigenous studies—as witnessed, for example, by collections of essays by Australian Aboriginal scholars engaging his thought—and even fields such as architecture and design, as demonstrated by recent exhibitions devoted to his work. |
