Course Description

This interdisciplinary course grapples with the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and human rights, critically examining how information ecosystems and algorithmic governance impact fundamental human rights, state governance and policing, global warfare, environmental health, and civil society organizing. In addition to reviewing key legal instruments like the European Union AI Act and United Nations guidelines on AI, this seminar will consider how human rights issues, concerns and violations are mapped onto the digital architectures of machine learning, automated decision-making systems, and generative AI.
