Course Description

Russia's war against Ukraine has multiplied Eurasia's connections with the wider world. This graduate seminar examines these connections beyond the usual boundaries of the “post-Soviet space.” Topics include wartime exiles and refugees, independent media in exile, disinformation and transnational repression, oligarchs and their enablers, sanctions evasion, shifting energy flows, and the changing roles of China, Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Türkiye, and the Gulf. The course also addresses broader global debates over empire, regionalism, decolonization, and whether “Eurasia” remains a useful analytical category.
